Spiral

Two years ago the brilliant detective Narumi Kiyotaka disappeared, leaving behind his wife and younger brother with only a vague message concerning solving the mystery of the so-called Blade Children. After being falsely being accused of an attempted murder, Kiyotaka's brilliant younger brother, Ayumu, finds himself drawn into investigating the cursed Blade Children and their connection with his missing brother.

I’m gonna start this review by stating that Spiral was the BY FAR the biggest "fuck you" I have ever seen in my entire life. The champion of “this-is-the-worse-ending-ever”, Spiral offers both suspense and thrill along the story but ends with despair and disappointment. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great anime, fun to watch with nice graphics and sound effects and spectacular twists but the plot is just horrible. It’s about a genius teenager Ayumu Narumi, whose brother, another genius fucknut detective, left Ayumu, his girlfriend/future-wife and police and disappeared without a trace. Ayumu's only clue as to his brother's whereabouts is the phrase "Blade Children," the only words Ayumu could make out in Kiyotaka's final phone call. Now this dude is getting involved in some kind of crime cases and he solves them without problems, getting more and more attention from the Blade Children. These Blade Children are the central mystery of the anime, known only as cursed children that few know about and are being pursued by so-called Hunters. Why? Fuck off. Who? Fuck off. When? Fuck off. The anime doesn’t fuck around with explaining shit to you. If you wanna watch this show, you better be fucking patient and just shut the fuck up.

Wiki extract
“As Ayumu investigates them, he meets Blade Children Kousuke Asazuki, Rio Takeuchi, Eyes Rutherford, Ryoko Takamachi, and Kanone Hilbert, and is tested in various ways by them. Those who meet him eventually conclude some more reluctantly than others that Ayumu does have what it takes to "save" the Blade Children, as they say Kiyotaka claims.”

Let me translate that for you. THEY, these special motherfuckers try to kill HIM, their only hope for survival. I am not kidding. These tests almost kill him every time, but he still succeeds to pass them without problems. Now some more info about this piece of shit. The sounds were awesome. It really makes a difference when you have shitty music and a thrilling anime, but they did a great job choosing the soundtrack. The graphics are not bad, no complaints there. Spiral really had lots of potential, and could have made it to the top if it wasn’t for the fucked up plot. The thing that I don’t understand is that the manga actually explained everything and you can read it online, the story, the plot, everything. But the creators of the anime just gathered there around a table and said, “you know what, I just realized we don’t need a fucking plot..let’s just make a cool anime with lots of suspense and exciting moments but ruin it at the end so that they will remember it forever.” Well, I did. It sucked so much I’ll have nightmares about it the rest of my life. Overall it was a decent anime, but again the ending making it the worst experience you can get from an anime. If you really don't care about the plot, and are out there watching pointlessly anime, then this is the shit for you.

Macross Frontier

So, after the Dragon Ball marathon, I believe I fulfilled my duty to the legendary anime, but now I think it’s time to move on. Now I know you’re waiting for a shitty anime review, but I want to talk about another favorite. The reason for this is that it’s all you would expect, and more, from a sci-fi and action anime. With this one, Animenerdz opinions and mine differ because of our different tastes. As you can see I am a more mecha and sci-fi fan. But I think that with this one, you don’t have to be a fan of the genre to truly enjoy it, and see why it is so acclaimed. While it doesn’t offer the same experience as Code Geass, cause it doesn’t have a story as amazing as Code Geass, or many twist and turns in the plot, but it does deliver a good experience. The plot is that after being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school student Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular idol Sheryl. Alto quickly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his friends and Macross Frontier.
So, as you can see the setting is good for some nice action. One complaint ( one that you will frequently notice in my mecha anime reviews ) is that the main hero, the awesome pilot, IS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT. You know it’s nice when you see one or two anime in which the hero that pilots the badass, newest model of mecha suit is just a kid but COME ON ! How many anime do you need with such idea. Well we will talk about that later on but right now I want to praise this one. First of all, let’s start with the opening theme. Just by listening it you can already tell that the musical score in this anime is freaking AWESOME. Every song is a treat and it always fits the mood perfectly, and always helps change it. The character cast is big, it has a lot of variety, with examples of different social status and occupations. Most importantly, each and every character acts the part he is supposed to act. A president will feel like he really is a president, a general will really feel like he is a general and a soldier will act the part. Although I have to say, some of them live some awkward drama, that really don’t make much sense. For example, the main character, Alto, is struggling to figure out if he did the right thing by becoming a pilot instead of some kind of Japanese theater actor. WHAT THE FUCK ! Are you serious ? Are you really wondering if you should have remained an actor and frequently play female roles ? What is there to decide ? I mean honestly if I come up to you and ask ,,Would like to play transvestite roles, and make out with men, or would you rather pilot the newest most badass fighter that can transform into a humanoid robot suit ? I think the choice is obvious. Yet he ponders about it like FOREVER. Also there is a lot of drama going on. For example both Ranka Lee and Sheryl fall in love with Alto, yet he can’t chose one of them. Well that’s easy, just propose a threesome. Just kidding, but the point is that sometimes the drama feels unnecessary and a bit dumb. But it doesn’t spoil the mood. Also I like the enemy because they offer a sense of true and imminent danger, and they are really hard to beat, which heightens the suspense. The action here is more based on epic space battles, but there are moments with more personal confrontations, without any fighters or robots, just a your two feet and a big gun. The best example is episode 20 which is also the most dramatic one. The battles are epic and the visual effects certainly are a eye pleasing. Animation-wise, Macross Frontier is certainly better that it’s predecessors, but I think they aren’t quite the best I’ve seen ( personally I think the best are in Code Geass and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig ). I mean they are good, and use a lot of coloring and laser-show effects, and the character models are beautiful, but there are times when they lose some of it’s sharpness. It’s like the graphics devolve a couple o years for a few seconds, and then they come back. These are minor gliches, and they aren’t really noticeable, but they are still there. The sound department is flawless. I already commented on the musical score, how it is one of the best out of all the anime I watched, and the sound effects are realistic. Voice work is good, it fits every character nicely and the singing steals the highlight. Overall, this is one of the best sci-fi, outer space anime in the market ( well at least presently cause you never know what might come up ). Also I would like to point out the fact that this is ONE of the best not THE best, so I’m still looking for that one, but if someone of you might know, please write it in a comment so that you might see that anime review.

Goldenboy

Golden Boy is by far one of the funniest anime series you'll ever see. It leaves you wanting for more, as it ends after just 6 episodes, making Golden Boy one of the best OVAs out there in the world. Golden Boy follows the story of Kintaro, a 25 year old man who dropped out of university because he finished early. He just dropped. Imagine that. What did he do next? Well, he started taking every shitty job in the world, and working his way throughout the world. He is always seeking to gain new knowledge, thus always trying something new. He is also a pervert. Well, he isn't but they make him look like one. Actually he is. Or not. Well it's fucking confusing. One episode he is this pervert looking for boobs, the other episode he is an understanding dude, with a full heart of love, so you don't really fucking get it. And there are only 6 episodes, so there is no fucking character development. The producers just expect you to invent your own fucking stories. "Why did he drop, why did he travel, well fuck you, can't you just invent it yourself?" And the amount of ecchi in this show is colossal. At one point he’s almost having oral sex with a chick, or watching a girl having orgasm on a motorcycle. Way too much ecchi, but they did well on the jokes part. Every episode there’s a hot chick involved that thinks of him that he’s a total asshole. By the end of each episode, indeed, he's won over the hearts of all involved, and usually has helped someone in the process. Kintaro also learns valuable lessons at each workplace, and teaches the people there important life skills as well. Animation-wise, Golden Boy had fairly crude visuals, but they were very appropriate for the style and mood. The character designs were somewhat minimal at times, with a palette of colors that was bland and varied. The facial expressions are always changing and are shown on a regular basis to make you laugh. For example, if Kintaro messed up with something, he'd get this extremely grotesque and horrified expression. Sometimes he'd look like a sunken skeleton, and other times, he'd look like a revved up fighting machine. The sound in Golden Boy is full of happiness, comical and it fits perfectly with the characters. Golden Boy is very popular because of its great DUB. And it is true. I saw this series in Japanese with English subs, and it was funny, but the English dub version was hilarious. I was laughing my ass out; the dub was that fucking great. Every sound was there on its place, making it all look like a masterpiece. If that wasn't enough, the writing is superb and the english voice acting couldn't possibly be better. The one thing to mention though is this is without a doubt an Ecchi series. It practically defines the word. If you're an adult anime fan who can get a laugh out of movies like American Pie, you'll love this.

Dragon Ball

Ok, this is my final review of the Dragon Ball marathon, and we certainly saved the worst for last. But before you start thinking I’m going to shit this anime, know that it’s not the worst anime, it’s just the worst in the series. Also, it has no appeal and there is no point watching it. Just by looking at the theme you can tell that this is very old. The only reason why I bother writing about it, is because of the fact that it’s the first in the series and you get to see Goku on the path to adulthood. But if there wouldn’t be a DBZ ( let alone DB GT ) then there honestly wouldn’t be a point in reviewing Dragon Ball. I just want you to know that it’s no bad because I find many complaints in it. It’s bad because, well… I CAN’T REMEMBER ANYTHING FROM IT, let alone complaints. That’s my main problem with it. It’s not memorable. It’s a classic only because it’s Goku. The graphics are balls, but it is 1986 ( and it sure looks like it ). Character models are goofy looking, and there are some characters that are plain weird, like Krilin ( or Kurinin ). He is small and bald. Fucked up part. HE IS CONSTANTLY SMALL. While Goku grows up, Krilin remains a little fuckball ( since he’s so small and bald ). Sometimes, some of they’re facial features disappear, so yeah, it sure looks like 1986. Sound effects are average, but, again, because it’s 1986. There isn’t much to talk about, and the only reason I’m writing this, is for the sake of the marathon ( so I can wrap it up ).
To end this I would say this : looking at it now DBZ is a bit retarded, but satisfying and leaves you with a happy feeling; looking at it now Dragon Ball is retarded…

Dragon Ball GT

So, as promised, this time I will talk about Dragon Ball GT. While there isn’t much to say, because it is not the same caliber as DBZ, it still is an entertaining experience. The plot is that ten years after Bu's defeat and Emperor Pilaf has gathered the dragon balls and promptly turns Goku back into a child-like form; and with the help of Trunk and Pan, the now inexperienced and young Goku must search for the dragon balls in order to help him return to his old self. However, retrieving the scattered dragon balls will be difficult, as Earth will be destroyed if they are not brought back to it within a year. In addition, they have been used one too many times, and evil dragons have since been released. In the midst of this chaos, Goku and the gang must face their strongest enemies yet: Professor My and Doctor Gero, who are building a copy of C17, and hordes of foes that were previously sent to Hell by Goku himself... First of all let’s start with the reasons why it is NOT as good as DBZ. My first complaint is described in the plot. The developers turned Goku into a KID. Why ? I’m not interested in that. I already saw Goku as a kid in the very first Dragon Ball. I don’t want to see that again. Fortunately, the cast from DBZ is still here ( I’m talking about Vegeta, Gohan, Goten etc. ), but again, as the plot describes, for a good part of the show you only get to see mini Goku, his granddaughter Pan and a teenager Trunks. The others are still here but you only get to see them involved in the plot in the first 2 episodes and somewhere after the middle. But when they get involved you’re in for some good action. Also, I like how the heroes turned out after ten years. Gohan is an adult, a scholar and a family man, Goten is a teenager Don Juan, Vegeta is also a family man and has a daughter, and Trunks is a young CEO of Capsule Corp. But they’re calm and peaceful lives are interrupted by the evil Baby ( what a fucked up name ) who bends them to his will, and conquers the Earth. Only Goku is left to stop him. That’s where they make up for the fact they turned Goku into a kid. He gets to transform into SUPER SAYAN 4 ( SS4 ). That is awesome. Another complaint is that the villain cast isn’t as big as in DBZ ( also counting the movies ) but it’s still satisfying. Also there is a new addition to heroes cast, and that is Uub ( very hard to pronounce ), Bu’s good reincarnation. You get to see him at the end of DBZ but he doesn’t contribute to the plot very much, and is still untrained. This time you see him powerful, and he even merges with Majin Bu to transform into Majin Uub, and gets to fight Baby Vegeta ( that’s Baby merged into Vegeta, and not actually a baby Vegeta ). While he isn’t very memorable, he still is a nice addition, and you won’t regret his presence. Graphics are good, even for 1996. Images are sharp, smooth and detailed, and character models are stunning. Sound effects are Ok, and the voice work is done by the same people who did it for DBZ ( yes I watched the English dub ). So there is not much else to talk about. Most what I had to say about the series, I already said in my DBZ review which started this marathon ( yes my next review is about the very first Dragon Ball ). But to finish this I’d like to say that GT can’t really hold a candle to DBZ, but it’s still worth the fun.

Dragon Ball Z

First of all, I want to explain why I put 2 amv’s : 1) They show what’s best in the Z series and it’s movies; 2) You see moments from the beginning of the series, the middle and the end so you can see the evolvement of the anime ( graphically, and not only ); 3) It shows a complete cast of all the Dragon Ball Z characters, both from the series and the movies. It also shows moments from the GT series, but I will talk about them next time.

When I was deciding what anime to review next, I discussed with Animenerdz if we should do something with Dragon Ball. At first, he wasn’t sure if it was worth it, but I think it is. After all, it has it’s own movie ( even if it sucks balls, should I say Dragon ballz ? ). Plus, if you ask someone what was the first anime he saw, or what anime he grew up with, the answer will most likely be Dragon Ball Z. It has a certain nostalgia factor and is a prized memory for many. Looking at it now, it is a bit retarded, but still satisfying and entertaining. The idea of it isn’t very original, it feels more like a superhero cartoon, but remember, those were the early ’90, in the western countries we knew only Superman as the ultimate super-powered being, and the east had nothing to offer as cool as he was. But here comes Goku, the guy who, I believe, in a fight will rip Superman’s asshole inside out. He is THE ULTIMATE embodiment of POWER and JUSTICE. He was so cool, western countries translated the series in every language they can, and his popularity grew. The plot is that five years have passed since Goku and his friends defeated Piccolo Jr. and restored peace to the planet. Gohan - Goku's son - and a variety of good, bad, and morally ambiguous characters are back, and perpetually not ready for action! Aliens, androids, and magicians all hatch evil plots to destroy the world and it's up to Goku to save the Earth once more - that is, once he and his comrades train plentifully in preparation. Enemies will become friends and power levels will rise to unimaginable levels, but even with the help of the legendary Dragon Balls and Shen Long will it be enough to save Earth from ultimate destruction? Why I chose this series to review before the other two, is that I believe it is the BEST. How many games have been made based on the Z series ? Hundreds. And how many based on the others ? None. Well there is one GT game, but few people knew about it, and I’m sure it sucked. The Z series show us a more mature Goku on his path of becoming the strongest warrior in the universe. At the beginning you see him rather weak, but at the end he is UNBEATABLE ! Also, you see a great addition to the show, and that is Gohan, Goku’s son. Here you see him evolve from a baby, into a powerful adult. Also, towards the middle you see another son, Goten. Another newcomer, which I like, is Vegeta and his son, Trunks. At the beginning, Vegeta is Goku’s rival, but at the end he is his most trusted friend and ally. Plus there is a variety of villains, which are very powerful, are hell-bent on destroying the Earth, and killing Goku, and they offer awesome and epic battles. So you see why I like this anime so much. Other aspects, like graphics, depend on the year. Remember that the series started of in 1989. The graphics then were goofy looking, but as the series progressed, so did the graphics. They improved substantially at the middle of the series, and are actually eye pleasing at the end. From the middle to the end they are beautiful. Sharp and smooth, bodies are more realistic, muscular and defined and the visual effects are nice. The sound evolved the same as graphics, so there is not much to say. I never heard the Japanese version, but the English dub is well done. Each voice is in accordance with the character it accompanies. The action is kick-ass. There isn’t much drama. Just mind-numbing, senseless fighting for which the series is so acclaimed. And the is also a nice dose of comedy. There is never one moment when you’re feeling dull. My only complaint is that each and every battle goes on for like 10 or 12 episodes. But that’s Ok. It just leaves you wanting to see the next episode even more.
So yeah it is pretty old and kind of dumb, but even now it’s good and fun to watch. It’s not a favorite but I think that every anime fan has seen or has to see it at least a couple of episodes. It is definitely worth watching.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

why 2 amv's? because they're both cool...couldn't decide xD

I am going to spoil myself a bit with this review. Hyperion let me do the Code Geass review, so that's what I am about to do. What is Code Geass? Well, it may be the best fucking anime ever made. Why am I saying this? Well, because Code Geass offers everything you ever want in an anime: amazing plot, amazing characters, great graphics and sounds, fabulous spins that keep you guessing the whole episode what will happen and an unbelievable ending. The plot in Geass takes place in Japan, an area called Area 11 after being conquered by the Holy Empire of Britain and their robot army. The main character is a charismatic teenager called Lelouch. He is actually the son of the emperor but he hides his true identity and hates the royal family. Him mother was killed when he was a boy in an assassination, and his sister lost her ability to see and walk in the same attack. He receives the power of Geass, which allows him to command other people by giving them orders only if he is eye contacting them during it, from a girl named C.C., and starts his revenge on the empire, by taking the identity of a masked savior called Zero. The anime follows Zero as he builds the resistance movement inside Japan against the Empire. I summarized the plot for you, and it may sound boring but it’s not. Watching Zero commanding his troops is incredible, and the battles are also very creative. The team behind the project was brainstorming ideas like a fucking marathon, because the twists and turns in the plot never fucking end. At one point you’re like, how the fuck did he do that, and when they explain it to you, you stay there, in front of your monitor, amazed at his Highness, Zero. There’s not much to say about the characters either, except that they develop incredibly well during the plot. With Lelouch living a double life, one was being the student of an expensive academy for British rich kids, and two was being Zero. And you’d think things would mess the fuck up, but they stay pretty clear. They even get more characters involved, with one of his friends becoming a British soldier, and another classmate becoming Zero’s assistant without knowing his true identity. As I already said, Code Geass may be one of the best anime series ever made, and it has the quality to actually defend its title for a couple of more years. There’s really nothing to criticize, well, maybe the fact that the girl that gives him the power doesn’t actually instruct him how to use it, and also, the other thing that sucked was that he could only use it once on a person. Well, that’s bullshit. I mean, it gives you more control on the plot, but it sucks. If I get this kind of powers, and she would tell me you can only use it once on every person, I would fucking stab her in the head with a fork. Oh, one more thing about Code Geass that sucked. The way they made Lelouch look like a fucking anorexic. Look at him in the trailer, I mean, they had some real fun making him the skinniest human being alive.

Devil May Cry

Time to review another shitty anime ( guess I’m a sadist ). But before I say this anime is a load of crap, I would like to point out the fact that I’m not picking on Devil May Cry franchise. The video games are great and represent some treasured memories for me ( maybe one day I’ll review the games ). And I am sure there will be those among you that read this review who will find the anime entertaining. It is. And it would be an Ok anime if it didn’t claim the title Devil May Cry, and would have nothing to do with the franchise. My main issue with this load of monkey-fuck is that IT BUTCHERED THE MEMORIES I TRESURE. I will definitely go into details later on but first thing is first. The plot is that Dante works as a demon hunter for the office of Devil May Cry, and as he is always in debt he doesn't have the luxury to turn down jobs as long as they pay well. His latest assignment is to be a bodyguard for the young Patty Lowe while she receives her inheritance. During the mission he was able to defeat the demons that got in his way and deliver Patty safely, but upon completion of the mission Dante discovers that Patty will be staying with him – indefinitely! Now, Dante must not only hunt demons and coexist peacefully with other hunters, but also handle the responsibility of taking care of a little girl! So right of the start you can see my first complaint. WHAT IN THE LOVE OF FUCK, DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE FRANCHISE? Is this what you want to see ? Dante taking care of a little girl ? Or rather something that could progress the plot in the series, tie in loose ends or maybe show how he grew up, or maybe something about his father, the Great Sparda, The Man. No. You get to see an annoying little girl which makes Dante’s life even shittier. It doesn’t progress the plot, or ad up to it. Instead you see random events that don’t have anything to do with one another. FUCKING GENIUS. Another complaint is the music. I’m guessing you already heard the opening theme, and I want to say that it’s not bad… But it doesn’t fit. Playing DMC you hear heavy metal music with vocalists. It gives a certain bad-ass style to the franchise AND most importantly – to Dante. So the theme is not bad, but out of place. Again, if this weren’t DMC, it would be Ok. I also find really displeasing the character cast. It has Dante, Trish ( his demonic partner ) and Lady a female demon hunter. So… Ok, I’m fine with that. But who are these other characters ? A little girl that you really don’t give a shit about, an old man who seems to know Dante very well, but you’ve never seen him before in the franchise, and gives Dante various missions. Why would you put them here. You don’t want them. You want Dante’s brother Virgil, or the Demon King Mundus, or ANYONE that would add up to the plot of the FRANCHISE. Also, another aspect of the series is Dante himself. He is not the one you grew up with. He’s the guy that likes to sleep and eat STRAWBERRY ICE-CREAM…….. WHAT THE FUCK ? Is it necessary ? Do you really want to see these ,,brilliant” new additions to the character. Well… no, because they fuck him up. You want to see the badass that eats pizza, reads magazines, and listens to rock. Also they made him less energetic than in the game. Now he is more calm and less talkative. What is this ? A samurai movie ? What’s with this sudden transformation ? How about not change anything about the character, how about that. What’s wrong with his energetic, rebel attitude which makes him say his punch-line ,, Let’s Rock” ? That is why we love him. Also I’m a bit disappointed about the enemies in this series. There is not much variety, and the ,,boss” battles are short. It’s not that the anime lacks action, it’s just that it’s not what you would expect. So yeah, there isn’t much to say about the character rooster. It’s small, and you don’t care for most of them, and the ones you do care ( mostly Dante ) are unrecognizable because of they’re personality change. Other aspects are good. The graphics are well done, smooth, sharp and detailed, and the sound effects are real. No complaints. It’s like they focused on it’s appearance and not it’s plot. Many episodes in the anime don’t even add up to the plot of the SERIES, let alone the franchise. And remember, the anime is 12 episodes long… too fucking short to show something good. It’s like somebody came in they’re office, said ,,Quick make an anime based on the best action game ever… AND MAKE IT INTO A STEAMING PILE OF DOG SHIT ! “ and they also gave the developers a very short deadline. But these are all assumptions. Like my friend Maniak said, these are our personal opinions, and you may or may not like them. But to a fan of DMC this is the worst anime adaptation ever, and probably one of the worst anime ever. To someone who has never heard of Devil May Cry ( although I doubt people like that exist ) this may be a fun little series to waste your time. But if you are one of those, I recommend to play the game, and stay away from this awful abomination.

Persona -trinity soul-

I'm gonna start my first review (the other ones are written by Hyperion) saying that our reviews represent our own opinion of some anime, and if you do not agree, please let us know. Before I actually started writing this review I asked Hyperion what I should write about. Well, he said, the shittiest anime ever. So I picked Persona Trinity Soul. What makes Persona the shittiest anime I have ever seen? Well, first of all I have to tell you something about this anime. When they started creating it, they said it was based on the popular PS2 game Persona 3, and its extension Persona 3 FES. Well, they fucked up catastrophically. It has nothing to do with the game, it's plot takes place in the same city, a couple of years after what happened in the game, and only one character from the game appears as an older version of himself. WELL THAT'S NOT FUCKING ENOUGH. I expected to see the whole cast, fighting, struggling, winning at the end, but noooooo, fuck the fans, fuck their expectations. Let's create some random kids, make one of them act like a girl because he misses his dead sister, the other one a loser at school, give them Personas, fuck up the entire plot on the way to the finish, and then make it all seem a dream from a book written by their mother. You got that? Me neither. It's what makes this anime such a colossal piece of diarrhea. The story is fucking unwatchable.

The wiki intro on this anime states that…
Persona: Trinity Soul takes place ten years after the end of Persona 3. It is set in Ayanagi City, a city located near the Sea of Japan, where the police force is investigating several cases involving a mysterious illness called the Apathy Syndrome. Ten years ago, Ayanagi city had been subjected to a severe earthquake, which the city has since recovered from. In the midst of the crisis, two brothers named Shin and Jun Kanzato move back to Ayanagi to see their elder brother Ryō, who is now the Superintendent of the Ayanagi City Police. It has been ten years since the three siblings last met with each other. It was said that the mysterious incidents in Ayanagi City were linked to covert testing conducted under Keisuke Komatsubura's watch, which tried to locate all known Persona users and find the strongest by weeding them out via Persona experiments before it was disbanded.

…which actually sounds interesting.

Something else I hated about this show was the drama frequency, I mean, ok, I get it, you had a rough childhood, your sister died and your mom, and you’re alone, but do you really have to remind me that fucking sad story every fucking time? I mean, the only reason you wanna watch something that has “persona” in its title, is for Personas, so, shut the fuck up, summon your persona and massacre someone.

After the 10th episode you just wish that some of those cool designed Personas just get out of your monitor and shoot you in your damned head. 'Cause yeah, the Personas are cool, it's the only reason I actually kept fucking dragging along the plot. Just for the fights between the Personas. They're incredible. If you don't care about the boring small-talk, the incredibly fucked up characters and their way to evolve in the plot, then Persona is the anime for you. It has great graphics, nice sound especially during those Persona fights I mentioned earlier, but nothing more. It was the biggest disappointment of my life, and I will never forget this fucking piece of shit. Oh, and something else before I finish. If the amv that you see on top of the review actually convinced you to download this piece of crap, please don’t. I know, it seems that I am exaggerating, but I am not. Trust me, the only way you could pass episode 10 is only if you were a fan of the game, and that is only to see if it actually has something to do with it, which IT DOESN’T.

Vampire Knight

Ok, time for another review. This time I will review Vampire Knight ( both seasons ). And don’t worry, this one is a nice, entertaining anime which I recommend ( I notice a pattern in my reviews: 1 shitty, 1 nice, 1 shitty, 1 nice ).
The plot is original, makes sense, and has a lot of twist and turns. The idea is that there is a certain academy called Cross that has some differences from other schools: in a unique and experimental setup designed by the headmaster, it has a Day Class consisting of ordinary humans and a Night Class filled with vampires. Yuki Cross and her friend Zero Kiryu are school prefects whose job it is to make sure the secret of the Night Class is always safe; they patrol the school grounds at night and supervise the switchover of classes at dawn and dusk to prevent any 'accidents' from happening. While Zero is suspicious of vampires and hates the idea of sharing the same space as them, Yuki admires the Night Class for their beauty and sophistication; she is especially intrigued by their charming leader, Kaname, because he once saved her life. However, as Yuki quickly learns, not all vampires are amiable like the Night Class, and as terrible events unfold, Yuki must ask herself whether in a world where vampires are the hunters and humans are the prey, peaceful coexistence can really be achieved. This gives premises for a lot of drama and romance. As you can guess, Yuki falls in love with Kaname, Kaname deeply loves Yuki, but so does Zero. It’s kind of a love triangle. My favorite character in the series is Zero, because he lives the most tragic drama, and frankly, destiny only throws shit at him. The main plot is the love between Yuki and Kaname, but sometimes it’s boring and predictable. I’m not criticizing the characters, because they are likable, have style, and are beautifully detailed. But they’re drama is kind of boring sometimes, and at those moments I think they are overreacting, or complaining for no reason. But Zero has a true tragedy. His family ( except for his brother, whom he loves but is betrayed by him ) is killed by a pureblood vampire which then transforms him into a vampire. And while he is a vampire, he refuses to fall in to his urges and suck blood, because he really hates vampires and doesn’t want to fall to they’re level. All the while, there is the growing danger of him being transformed into a degenerated vampire, and will lose his mind. That’s one messed up guy, but because of this he is the most interesting and unpredictable. The second season provides him with more spotlight, and left me wanting for more seasons, so I can see how his story will progress. Now let’s talk about other aspects. The opening theme is a treat, and the video it accompanies gives a good look and feel of the main characters cast. The cast I well defined, although some of they’re personalities is common and because of that some of them can be predictable. But nevertheless, each individual has his own style, which can also be reflected in his or her powers. Yeah, there are powers in this anime. But don’t worry. These are more sophisticated than let’s say… Dragonball Z or other ’90 anime. There are no fireballs, or super-punches that can crumble mountains. These powers are more like transforming one’s own blood into a sharp weapon, or conjuring ice from air moisture. And there are also the vampire hunters, which don’t have powers but instead have special weapons that can kill vampires. So you get that feel that the vampires are stronger and that humans have to rely more on brains than brawn. The graphics are sharp, each character has his own distinct color selection corresponding to his personality, background is well detailed, it looks and fells like an interactive environment, and character models are well detailed. Sound effects are realistic and voice cast is well chosen. In short, no complaints whatsoever. And I have no complaints about the action, but I think the series could have used a little more of it for the first season. It’s a good thing the second season wasn’t lacking. Actually, I think the second season is better, because even though it focuses a lot on Yuki and Kaname, it gives a lot more credit to Zero. And even though it’s a drama, the series doesn’t lack comedy either. It isn’t necessary, I mean my opinion wouldn’t have changed even if it didn’t have comedy. But it’s a nice addition. So I guess it has a balanced mix of action, comedy and romance. And that’s one of the important things which make a good anime. So, I think I made my point clear on why I think this is an anime worth watching. It’s unique, and I hope the series will not stop with Guilty, and will move one ( so that I can finally see something good happen to Zero ).

Paranoia Agent

This time I decided to torture myself some more with shitty anime. Today’s masterpiece is Paranoia Agent. Unlike s-CRY-ed ( which, I think, I will never stop making references to it ), I watched this one to the end. I realize that I should have dropped this anal waste after the 7th episode, but I wanted to give it a chance. Why ? Well I will tell you all about it. If you read the information given on anime-planet you might think it is original. DON’T GET SUCKERED IN. For starters, let’s talk about the plot. At first it seems like a mystery, a little kid with a baseball cap, roller skates, and a golden, bent bat hits people in the head, and runs away. It’s a chaotic pattern, but to policemen try to find a connection. As the series progress, this fucker actually kills people, so yeah, it has a lot of violence. But lets talk about the other tags. It is a thriller until the 7th episode, then it becomes a mindf*ck, but only because it doesn’t make any sense. Now what’s the most important part of a mystery, thriller, psychological anime ? TO MAKE SOME SENSE AT SOME POINT IN THE SERIES, OR AT LEAST AT THE ENDING. But first thing is first. The opening. While the theme is really nice, the video already shows how much illogic the series will contain. I mean what other opening have you seen a guy laughing in the air, among the clouds, with his head upside down ? They just show a cast of the characters with some fucked up background, like the top of mount Fuji or Nagasaki when the atomic bomb blows. It throws away all logic. The cast is diverse, but you don’t see many of them often, and most don’t have any connection between them. Each represents a social issue, so I guess that’s one of the few reasons why I gave it a two star rating ( see my anime-planet list ). So yeah, it talks about social problems, but those are more like sub plots, and we don’t want them. We want to know all about the main mystery, the little slugger. Well the anime says ,,Fuck you! Just watch all the shit you have met or will meet in your lives.” And if I already talk about the characters, let’s talk about the graphics. While the background is done right, with details, sharpness, full color and all, the character animation SUCKS. It’s a certain style, which may be good for some, or at least unimportant, for me it’s just DISGUSTING. The more slender or average shaped people are Ok, but the fat characters, or old are just fucked up. It’s hard to explain it, but trust me, when I say it’s REALLY fucked up, then you know it’s crap. Also there some close up views that you just want to skip. Sound effects and voice work are good. They’re not top grade, but they sound realistic, and that’s enough for me. So I guess that’s also a plus for the two star rating. But now let’s go in depth on why I hate it so much. First of all, for the first 5 or 6 episodes, you might think that there is a logic that you will discover later on. But that is just like thinking that your shit is made of gold. In episode 7, everything just goes ape shit. The idea is that they captured little slugger, and put him in jail. But when the two policemen go there, they find him dead. The fucked up part... HE WAS KILLED BY HIMSELF!!!! Not suicide! Literally, a second him was standing on his feet next to his dead body. Is he a clone ? Is this Star Wars ? So when the police try to capture the second one, he disappears through a wall. At that point, I should have dropped watching the series. But some kind of hope kept me going. Beyond this there are a lot of mind numbing, retarded moments. But not like a small sequence. No. ENTIRE EPISODES ARE RETARDED, AND DON’T PROGRESS THE PLOT. For example, there is an episode about three people ( a teenager, a 8 year old girl and an old man ) who met on the internet, and try, the entire episode to kill themselves. When they realize they can’t do it they go to a hotel depressed. There they see the little slugger kill a random guy nobody gives a shit about, and they beg him to kill them, but he runs away. Then they decide NOT to kill themselves, and go to a bar and eat. Fucking genius. Or how about an episode, where the slugger transforms into a monster, but can’t kill a woman because she tells him that she is happy that her life is full of shit ( or something like that ). So, whatever, I can go on and on with this. The main idea is that you see all these sub plots that don’t progress the main story, and don’t forget…. THE SERIES HAS ONLY 13 EPISODES. The last part I want to comment on is the ending. It says that the little slugger appeared in this world when a little girl lied about her being hit in the head by the little slugger, because she didn’t want to tell her parent’s that her lack of attention at one moment led to the dog’s demise ( got hit by a car, the poor little dumb shit ). So when the girl ( now grown up ) makes peace with the past, the little slugger disappears. WOW. They were on drugs when they thought this shit up. FOR REAL. He was created by a little girl ? What is she, a super mental powered freak ? She can create the things she sees in her mind?
What ever, if I want I can talk for days on this mess. Bottom line… Stay away! Stay away as fucking possible! Spare yourselves. Spare yourselves from this waste of time. I sacrificed myself for you, and even bothered writing a review about it to spare you the trouble of watching it. And those who watch till the end, without asking for mental counseling, should receive a reward. PARANOIA AGENT… YOU SUCK.

Full Metal Panic!

As you can see, this time I chose one of my top 5 anime. After that dog turd, s-CRY-ed, I thought that i deserve to review something nice and entertaining. Well this is it. Not only did I watch the full season, but also the second season ,,Second Raid” , the special season called ,,Fumoffu” and the OVA. Actually, I even watched them twice. It’s that entertaining. First of all, it has originality. Not that mecha was something new at the time, or the idea that teenagers pilot giant mecha suits, but the way the anime explains all the technology and robot suits, is really creative and it fits in the plot well and helps the story progress nicely. The idea is that there are certain people, called whisperers, that have valuable information locked up in their mind. One of the two main characters, Kaname, is a 16 year old girl with such information, and there are certain organizations that want it. That info is the source of much of the si-fi technology, including the mecha suits. That also means that the world will be set in some kind of alternate history of the beginning of the 21st century. Countries are divided, wars and revolution are all over the world, and many historical wars ended and are named differently. In short, it`s fucked up. But as you can see, if you watch the anime everything is tied in and there are no loose ends. But the best part is the main male protagonist, Souske. He is one serious military guy that is disciplined, calm, talented, skilled… in short he is an outstanding soldier ( and he is an excellent mecha pilot ). But the problem is that he is 16 year old too, and all he ever had in his life was war and the military. So when he is appointed Kaname’s bodyguard, he has a hard time adjusting. This gives premises for a lot of comedy, but also romance and drama. But most of all, it has ACTION. Not just mecha battles, but also situation that a real life marine or special forces unit have to handle. So as you can see this anime is diverse. Now it’s time to comment on other things. First of, the title. Unlike s-CRY-ed, the title has some sense in it. Think about it ,,Full Metal Panic”. Full Metal talks about the mecha ( which i believe is made of metal ) and Panic can be referenced to… pretty much anything in the series ( either the chaos Souske causes because of his lack of understanding the day to day life , or the destruction caused by the villains, whatever ). The opening theme is really nice. It fits the teenage mood of the main characters, and it goes well with the video. The character cast is good. It has variety, everybody fells like they belong, and everyone has his own, distinct personality, meaning that you will never fell like you’ve seen him before. There isn’t a sequence that you will fell it’s out of place, or dumb. Well sure, usually Love letters don’t become terrorist threats and field trips don’t become commando operations, and in real life you probably wouldn’t see something like that, but nothing is out of place, and you will always laugh at the situation because it really is funny, it fits the mood, and defines the characters of the series. The sound effects are good, they make you perceive what they should be, the voice work is done right and it ads to the characters complexity. The graphics are kick-ass. Sharp, brightly colored and every model is well defined and detailed ( like Souske’s scar, the mecha suits, the battlefields etc. ). Not bad for 2002. Plus ,,The Second Raid” , since it’s from 2005, has even better graphics. So i can say that it is really pleasing to the eye. Overall this anime is great, and i recommend it as a ,,must see”.

s-CRY-ed

So this is my first review on this blog, and many of you might ask yourselves ''Why such a random anime ? Why not something from his favorites ? ". Well the answer is that i dropped it after the FIRST EPISODE. I know what some of you might be thinking ''Oh, well if he didn't watched it, then he can't make a good review", but let me tell you, that it's SO not worth my time and effort to watch an episode of this COLLOSAL piece of shit, let alone the full season. For starters let me ask you this: how many times have you seen badass characters that have special powers which reach into space ? I mean that was something of the `90 but this was 2001. I mean it was getting old way too fast after Dragonball Z ( the part with the powers ). I mean there was no real originality. Sure they get different names and stuff, but still it is a copy of Dragonball and that's OK for the `90 but by 2001 people want to see something original. So it gets that distinct "Been there, done that" feeling. Actually the main character looks very familiar. Where have i seen him before ? Oh yeah... Yu Yu Hakusho! The main character from both anime's are THE SAME. Both have great powers that progress through-out the series, both become powerful at the end, both have a strong nemesis, both are badass, both have the wish to fight greater and stronger opponents ( like in Dragonball ? ), and they both practically LOOK the SAME. The title doesn't make sense at all. s-CRY-ed? It doesn't say anything. Usually it's the name of the main character, or like in mecha anime, the name of the main mecha model, or ANYTHING that is related to the series AND the meaning of the title is given in the first episode. Well not in s-CRY-ed. It says ''Fuck that shit, we will call it something indefinable". Well i cried. I cried at the fact that i had to wait for this fucking "masterpiece" to download and waisted my time. Another aspect is the opening theme song. It doesn't fit well ( not that anything does ). I mean the plot is about a fictional Japan with Si-Fi elements, and strong, super powered people that fight to the death. Why would you put a SALSA ( or rumba, or tango or whatever kind of spanish like melody ) as the OPENING THEME ? It gives me an image of all the main characters dancing in a line. Also, it starts like a riddle. Some girl says that she had a dream, and it shows a vertigo scene like some alien got drunk as shit and spins around in space. It makes no sense. The anime has a lot of characters, but they are uninspired. I already talked about the main character, whose name is Kazuma, but there is also this 8 year old girl, which treats the main character as shit, his friend which rips him off to do hard jobs for small price, a bitch which caresses old men instead of doing her job ( she's the blue hair girl from the opening theme ) and i found that part just plain weird, and there is also the protagonist's nemesis, a guy with green hair which looks all cool and serious and at first kicks the shit out of the main character. There are also many other secondary characters, that act as villains or people that need to be saved, but again, they are really weird. In the first episode Kazuma fights another superpowered guy name Big which leads a group called Lardus. LARDus. What kind of fucked up name is that ? LARDus. It's like a joke, but a really bad one. And guess what, the leader of the group is Big and he is really fat. Thats one messed up villain. There are many other moments in the episode ( and i guess in the entire series ) that are really retarded. Like there is one part in which he pays an old man to go through a tunnel which leads God knows where ( maybe a bar or a whorehouse ) and he meets a little kid he sees first time in his life, asks about his father, asks if the kid likes his father, says its good that the kid likes his father and then goes away. OK... Imagine if i come up to you and ask you some fucked up questions and then walk away without any explanation. You will think i'm a fucknut. Also it has many childish moments, for example when Kazuma tries to convince his friend to be paid 2000 and not 30, God knows what, and they settle this with rock, paper, scissors ( yeah like real MEN ). So as you can see it's real mind numbing and boring. Other aspects, like graphics, SUCK. They suck balls. I allready talked about the music, how it doesn't fit. The sound effects are so Dragonball ( although i imagine that most anime sound effects are like that ), but this is 2001. Couldn't they get better sounding effects? Graphics are dull. Some character models aren't defined enough, while others don't define their personality. Cowboy Bebop, which was made in 1998, is better looking than this piece of shit. It isn't even sharp enough. Instead it looks something from early '90. Actually, if i make something in paint, and then put it in GIF animation, it will look better than this. Overall it is something slightly below average, with predictable plot, uninspiring characters, dull graphics, music that doesn't fit the scene and  ''Been there, done that" powers and battles. I don't want to impose my opinion on you, and maybe some of you who read this article will find the anime in a better light than me, but let me tell you, those who will find the patience to watch it, should get a medal.
