This is the preview for the movie of Bungaku Shoujo or Literature Girl. By the way, bungaku in Malay means 'my flower'. Just thought that I throw it out there. Seems appropriate with the shoujo theme going on.
This OVA/movie is based on the popular manga with the same title. I haven't read it though since it is shoujo and I don't normally read shoujo. The 17 minutes OVA is pretty much the preview of what to expect for the upcoming movie that is set to be released in 2009 winter which only titled as Bungaku Shoujo.
It is about a girl named Touko Amano who literally eats the pages of the literature book she is reading. She considered them as her meal. She can feel the emotions and what not of the story after she consumes it and it also kinda placed her at the scene.
She is the president of the literature club and the club has one more member, Inoue Konoha. Konoha is pretty good at writing thus Amano always tell him what she wants for a meal: something that has vault pole, bamboo blade and first love. So Konoha has to make up stories for her to consume at the end of the day.
This movie is produced by Production IG. I am not too thrill with the art. It certainly does not looks like the typical Production IG product. Having said that, as someone who loves to read myself, I am interested to see where or what the next adventure could be.
At the end of this OVA, they showed us a bird house which has been 'renovated' to be the place for the school student to tell the literature club of their love. I expect the movie would be using that as a story.
Not bad of a premise I must say...

This OVA which was titled "Sono Shitsuji, Kougyou" is the extra episode included in the DVD. It was released on September 30th.
The OVA was pretty much about the stage play the Funtom Company organized for the children. However, three days before the play Ciel received news that the performers were met with an accident thus couldn't make it in time for the presentation.
So what Ciel do when he is in a pinch? If you are familiar with Kuroshitsuji you know exactly what's coming:
And that's an order!
Obviously Sebastian will made the rest of the casts to rehearse Hamlet, including Ciel himself. Phailed... Anyway, as one would have expected it was a stretch of comedy and drama from the usual casts of the three servants, Lau and Ranmao, Soma and Agni, Undertaker, Elizabeth and Grell.
noserape!!
I bet we all can pretty much guess that the play turned out to be a total disaster but in a really good kind of way. I enjoyed it at least and was at awe when Sebastian attacked Ciel although it wasn't in the script because of the sudden improvement in animation.
The moral behind the story: revenge is wasteful. When the curtain falls down again, you'll be left with nothing. Thankfully though that Ciel has no intention of letting go of his revenge ^__^
At the end of the OVA, they showed us the preview for second season of Kuroshitsuji. Gintama anyone?
hell yes!!

I am kinda a fan of xxxHolic. I enjoyed both of the seasons and I think Doumeki is hot. But that is out of topic.
xxxHolic Shumuki is the OVA which was released in winter 2008 and consists of 2 episodes.
The story pretty much is basically a short continuation from the second season. Watanuki has to repay the price to those people who have saved him back then: Himawari - the promised of true smile, Doumeki - trust and gratitude and then there was Syaoran.
This is Syaoran. Honestly, I can't remember if I have seen him in xxxHolic before...
Then Haruka-san requested that Watanuki helped him out with 5 things since he wanted to thank him, and so together with Doumeki, he completed those tasks. At the end of the tasks, Watanuki met Sakura-chan, Syaoran's girlfriend.
Watanuki comforting Sakura-chan
Apparently Watanuki and Syaoran are alike.
Eh?!!! I just realized that Syaoran and Sakura are from Tsubasa Chronicles. Could this really be? No wonder Sakura seemed so familiar... Crossover FTW? Because Syaoran did say that Watanuki is his other self. WTF I'm confused!
Then Watanuki got back from dreamland, he met Yuuko and promised to fulfill her wish. Looks like we might have a third season coming? Yay!!
After I read Glo's comment on his top ten worst anime characters, I begin to see Watanuki in different light. I have always like him and still does I guess but I can see that he can really be annoying at times too, which was why he got a spot on Glo's list. To be fair though he was made/designed to be the comic relief of this show. There are no changes on other characters as well. Doumeki and Yuuko are still the same quirky and eccentric.
The same can be said about the voice actors and the art/animation. No changes from the two seasons which provide consistency and in my book consistency is good. The OP song was pretty chillaxing and catchy while the ED was more melodious.
If you want to watch this OVA, I suggest that you watch the two seasons first otherwise you'll be thoroughly out of the loops.

With the confirmation of the second season in our pocket (see here), I guess it is really time to review the first season of Darker Than Black. It has been almost 2 years since I've seen Darker Than Black, so today i tried to catch up by watching 4 random episodes in order to be able to review the series.
Some titles are misleading, as such is 'Darker than Black'; though the series is graphic throughout, the story is considerably less 'dark' than many other of anime. I cannot really 'genre' it either; there are elements of the supernatural which are used so for 'Darker than Black' to feel very much like a superhero story. It features superpowered people who are real people, their powers come at a real price and not a token moral price as is used in children's comics. The show also has such stereotypical characters, but I can say that these characters do the subject matter justice. The subject matter in question is thoughtful and it fuels very interesting conflicts.
The story unfolds gradually with us getting to know more of the main character's back story from episode to episode. The powers are interesting as is the background of fear and manipulation and the fact that it finishes is one series rather than dragging on to squeeze extra money out of the idea is appealing. The plot is intelligent with no bad or annoying episodes and the ending is surprising and consistent, there is a small bit of comic relief but this is a dark story.
I hadn't watched this anime in years but I can really say that this one dragged me in from the first episode and I didn't regret it.

Another anime I am adding to my top ten list..it's kind of funny that my top ten actually has over 20 and is growing constantly. Denno Coil is what you call an excellent children show although by the end even I was wondering what is going on. Not always a children show, the real storyline is actually very mature. The Denno Coil universe is not incomprehensible but boy was there much thinking and imagining that went into creating those 26 episodes that always seem not enough to explain everything. A lot of questions still hanging in the air.
The whole action takes place 20 years from now where a virtual space coexists with real space and can only be seen using special glasses. Most of the children and some adults use this space mostly for fun and hacking. And although I wouldn't call Dennou Coil funny it did make me laugh. The quality of the animation is its high point with detailed backgrounds and animation of the characters that shows well what they are thinking. It is like a real movie. And once you get into the main plot, you'll never stop watching it. The first part of the anime is mostly episodic with the whole mysterious plot actually exploding by the middle of the series. Even in the end, the true nature of the cyberworld and the Illegals, the viruses in that world, is never 100% explained, and some interpretation is left up to the viewer.
The soundtrack is wonderful. I usually skip the opening and ending themes but I listened and kept humming for 26 times. The sound effects are also beautiful, delivering the exact emotions of suspense and drama at the time they are needed.
The actual tools like glasses and metabugs and kirabugs and other original technology used in the series makes this very fun to watch and the mystery is what kept me questioning its core. However, it does the trick well enough. The computer graphics are superb in creating the cyberspaces and all the technological stuff. Overall, the direction of this anime, how things will be executed and how things will end up is quite unpredictable, and that’s what I likeD about this. You'll laugh, you'll be freaked out and you'll cry in this world of friendship, mystery and pain.

I love OVAs. For those of you that don't know what OVA means it's Original Video Animation. Those kind of series released on VHS and later on DVD because they are too awesome to be shown on TV. Also it's not the Pokemon bullshit you see on TV, it's pure entertainment. OVA usually bring awesome animation and DOGS didn't disappoint me at all. It delivers 4 episodes of pure action, some bits of drama and incredible animation. The soundtrack is also enjoyable, but I have found it too similar to the Cowboy Bebop theme, and Hyperion (the other anime nerd) and I actually had a fight whether they ripped off Baccano! or Cowboy Bebop when they created the opening theme. Just listen for yourself under the post. And now some information about the story. It revolves 4 characters, each episode being attributed to one of them and their own life. An assassin, a girl whose parents have been killed and is now seeking for vengeance, and 2 friends, one of them which is immortal from what we get in the final episode of the OVA. As I have already mentioned the animation is gorgeous. The fighting scenes remind me of Matrix though, and I actually found some reference in the Wiki page of the DOGS. Although some may say that 4 episodes of 15 minutes can't make a great anime, DOGS proves everyone wrong, delivering a good package that will keep you glued to the screen for the whole hour.

When I first saw this anime on Animex, I was sceptical. I didn't follow it through. The second time they showed it, I thought, why the hell not since there are no other anime worth watching on that channel anyway since I've seen most of it.
Oh boy I was in for a surprised. It turned out to be quite a saga for me.
The creator, Tow Ubakata took the concept of the real Chevalier D'Eon who was discovered to be a man upon his death and turned it into a fantasy action novel that involved 'poet' and spells. Ubakata managed to retain the facts of the actual person history in the midst of supernatural flick that he created. I was impressed.
The story is about D'Eon de Beaumont who was set out to find the truth behind his sister's death/murder, Lia de Beaumont. The restless soul of her sister used his body as a vessel to seek revenge. He with three other friends become spies for French King, Louis IV. His majesty order is to regain the Royal Psalm and bring it back to Versailles. Along the way, he learned the truth about everything that makes him question his loyalty to the country.
In order to fully understand what is going on, you need to pay attention to the heavy dialogue, especially when it comes to the psalm which wasn't fully explained till the end. It was rather slow-paced in the beginning since it takes a while to get going but kicked ass when it does. The story is full of unexpected twists that will keep you on the edge till the end. Just brace yourself for the climax. There are some heartfelt moments in it too that makes watching this oh so worth it.
It took me a while to get fully acquianted with the characters because there are many with complicated names to boot. But I get the hang of it soon enough. Durand, Robin and Teillagory are the three friends that accompany D'Eon on his mission. The viewers will soon introduced to other characters like Maximilien Robespierre, an acquaintance of Lia and King Louis IV. I am rather fond of the sub-characters if compared to D'Eon. Apart from his love to his country and the people around him, D'Eon is pretty blah. Durand, Robin and Maximilien are my favorites due to their interesting characters. They gave out a sense complexity and mysteriousness.
I didn't know this series was produced by Production I.G, the same production studio that produced Ghost In The Shell until the third episodes when I did some research on the real D'Eon. So obviously, there are little faults to be found in the animation. They have done their research for the building, setting and characters designs which turned out to be very detailed, and managed to capture the feeling of monarchy. The swordfights are clean, swift and brutal, as expected of the knights in that era.
I like the OP and ED but I won't say that they are my favorites. I should say that the rich orchestral background music plays a role in this anime too. It further enhanced the atmosphere and added the element of suspense and drama. It was to be expected since it is from Michiru Ooshima, the same man that is responsible for Fullmetal Alchemist. I couldn't find any flaws with the voice acting either so they must have done a good job. Surprisingly, even the dubbed version is not that bad.
I really enjoyed watching this series and have no qualm what so ever to rewatch it. If you like to watch something with unique plot, this is definitely the one you should put on the list. However if you are those people who watch anime for the action or moe-ness, forget it. You'll be thoroughly disappointed.
"The Search for Vengeance" is made of equal parts: present-story and back-story, with sudden, unexpected transitions between the present and the past. The story is about Colin MacLeod, once a Scottish ruler, now a merciless immortal looking for vengeance. During a battle against the Roman Empire, he is left for dead by the emperor, Octavius, the man that killed his wife, but is given the power of immortality. The only bad thing is that although he is immortal, he can still feel the pain, and also, he will lose the immortality once his head is cut off.
Now in a post-apocalyptic New York City, our hero arrives on the scene and joins rebel Dahlia and an underground band of freedom fighters in a desperate battle against Octavius, who is now a dictator and rules the city with his army of robotic sentinels and scientists working on some top-secret project that are meant to wipe out the underground resistance once and for all. In these battles, we also get flashbacks to Colin's past, the battles he's fought with Octavius, and his undying love for his wife, Moya. The one thing I actually liked about this movie was the visual production. I rarely was pulled out of the visuals to question or second guess what was done. The vocals and soundtrack were good, but not stunning. It was clear, and the emotions came through at the right times. Considering the great visuals, the sound was a crap in comparison. The plot was decent. It started well. The potential for interesting characters was there at every turn. But they didn't integrate into the Highlander mythology well at all. We have Colin as the Protagonist, and Marcus as the Antagonist, are both just cardboard cutouts. Worse, Marcus is cut from better cardboard than Colin. He at least has a Darth Vader imperial feel that doesn't need much explaining. He is also this typical bad boy sexy dude that will have you falling for him, although he will be cutting kitties while punching babies in the face. Colin is a young goof at the beginning, and has grown into an old, angry, and bitter goof by the time the action of the film picks up. Even his guardian angel that gave him the immortality points this out. I just was not impressed by his story, or the general arc of this film.
Another movie I watched during my movie marathon was Origin - Spirits of the Past. Well, the movie began with a great start. The art is just simply amazing! Absolutely breathtaking sequences. Only the opening sequence alone is worth seeing the movie for, and the music that plays over it is gorgeous. The movie presents us the classic struggle between man and nature, as it is displayed in some crumbling town, a militaristic city, and the dangerous forest. Modern humanity as we know it is represented in this movie by a man and a girl who have each reawakened in this distorted future where man is at war with nature. They both decide that nature should be the boss on this planet. However, the good stuff basically ends there. In short, this movie is great visually, but it doesn't have much of a plot.
The first half of the movie was actually great, but the second half is terrible. Basically, we have some guy chasing this girl for a while and screaming her name a few times. Then he realizes that, hey, everyone can be at peace by just changing their perspective and guess what? Fucking everyone else agrees with him and they all become better people. Even if the movie may not be the anime of the year nor even have the best story, nevertheless it's still something worth watching.
Couple of years ago, a friend of mine lent me his DVD when I told him I was yet to be acquainted with Onizuka. He could not believe it and literally forced me to watched it right away. Putting aside my studies (Yeah, I was in college back then), I dedicated my next couple of days to finish the anime.
It was time well spent.
After watching the first episode, I was totally enamoured by Onizuka Eikichi and his ridiculous crazy ways of handling matters in life. Here he was, an ex-biker gang leader, an emotionally fragile loser with no life, less social skills and a good heart whose aspiration is to be a great teacher. Mixed that all up and you get one character that fucked up a lot and get carried away from time to time with violence yet can't help being a good guy.
Onizuka was thrown into a class where the students have to deal with their own set of problems (a sad accurate reflection of modern Japan youth). Between skirt chasings and torturing the student, he managed to help them solved those problems, using his unconventional (read: retarded) methods which provide plenty of comedy and humorous situations. Onizuka was in the heart of it all. He, more than anything, what makes GTO as much fun as it is.
He is a one man hero.
The story is somewhat cliche and is considered episodic where several different story settings take place. However they are some very clever surprises and plot devices to keep the viewer poised for more.
The art and animation was adequate for its time but comes across as kinda outdated in this modern days. Nonetheless it fits right in with the mood the show aims to give you.
The voice acting from everybody fits well too with the characters (i'm not talking about the dubbed version). The variety amusing mood-enhancing tunes for background music will perk you up. As for the OP and ED songs, they were decent selections.
While there is a certain moral message to the anime, watch it for the sheer fun value. It will make you laugh, that's for certain, or perhaps it might even make you cry.
This movie is so bad it should be fucking illegal to watch it. Don't get me wrong. in the first ten minutes, the movie was able to hold my interest and it seemed as if it really might be good, HOW(fucking)EVER, it quickly became this sad, warped, Red Riding Hood fairy-tale, with an occasional automatic weapon killing losers. Near the beginning of the movie, it seemed that the main Rambo character was on drugs, which would have made this horrible movie watchable had I actually had some. As the movie progressed, it became increasingly painful for my brain to watch and just ridiculously overcomplicated. In Jin-Roh, they threw in what people call flash-backs, dreams, or conflicts within the main character. That is some sad shit to look at for 90 minutes. However, by the end you find out that they essentially lied to you about the whole situation since the main character doesn't even think those things to begin with, he knows exactly what's going on the whole time. WHAT THE FUCKING POINT OF SHOWING ME THAT??? Melodramatic is what this shit is called. During the first three fourths of this I was bored to tears. It plays the same grave-like melancholy atmosphere over and over and over and over again with almost no actual plot development. Among the movies I never ever want to see again, this definitely tops the list. It may be beautiful to look at but the plot is so confusing that I found it too hard understanding what it was all about. For some reason the men behind the script thought it was a good idea to put three different crime fighting groups with almost exactly the same names into this movie. Well, they did a fine job of confusing me at least.
The movie was ridiculous and it felt like it was at least 6 hours of my time wasted. I would give this a zero if I could, but I can't as the animation was pretty decent.
Munich 1923. Two years have passed since Edward Elric's sacrifice ripped him out of his world and into ours, separating him from his younger brother, Alphonse. In that time, Ed's continued research into rocketry has allied him with Alphonse Heiderich, a fellow researcher who oddly resembles Ed's brother. Progress has been slow, however, Ed has become discouraged. But when he saves a quiet Gypsy girl with the power to read minds, Ed is quickly pulled into a plot by the Thule Society and the burgeoning Nazi Party that could drag both worlds into a terrible war. Back in his own world, Al has been unlocking new secrets of alchemy and gaining incredible powers, all in the hopes of finding Ed. You're unable to use alchemy in the real world so they wait for someone from the Alchemy to perform a transmutation circle that will be some kind of gateway between each worlds. And when that happens it'll be a battle to the finish. The fate of both worlds are in the hands of the Elric Bros. This movie features a lot of familiar characters from the series, including alter egos in the real world. Those who like the TV series might like this movie. It has action, suspense, and it tries to tie up all the loose ends that were left off in the last episode. What I really didn't understand was why in the mother of fuck would they add Germany and Hitler?? That is the stories biggest fault. Adding WWII and Hitler... WHY ?? The series was not perfect but at least it was making sense..well, kind of...and didn't need Hitler. It didn't even need Germany. The animation and voice acting were great, but with an idiotic plot, dull setting (most of the movie takes place in dull WWII Earth rather than the Alchemy world), and disappointing ending (Ed is useless for the rest of his days in a world with no alchemy). Decent shit turned into a bad movie. Nothing new here, moving on.
That line made me a fan of this anime and of that character.
This anime is brewed with drama, angst, romance and cuteness. It would have been perfect if I were the kind of girl who loved the normal typical love story. I don't. Nevertheless I still love it. It reminds me of Clannad and Kanon, minus the comedy. There are several scenes that would make you cry a river.
There are three female leads who typically chase after one male lead. It might be considered as a harem but don't let that discourage you since it was well written. The anime takes a rather different approach in dealing with the multi-layer relationships and since they only have 3 females instead of >10, the relationship between the characters are intricate, fragile and well developed. Throughout the episodes, you will see Shinichirou (the male protagonist) trying to choose between three different girls; Noe, Hiromi and Aiko. Noe is the odd girl whom he met at school. She is straight-forward and managed to pull that naievity persona without being overly cute and obnoxious. She is the catalyst for some of the important occurence in the anime. Hiromi is the girl Shinichiro has a crush on since childhood. She lives under the same roof and have to endure the sneerings from Shinichiro's mother. Aiko is the girlfriend of Shinichiro's best friend, Nobuse but in truth she gets together with Nobuse because she wants to get closer to Shinichiro.
So like it said, the relationships are very complex.
There can be two outcomes for the ending of this anime. Either you love it or you hate it. I happened to be the later. I cried my eyes out watching the final episode of True Tears because I was so fucking disappointed and pissed beyond believe. If it wasn't of the ending, I would have give it 10 out of 10. Animation-wise, it would certainly lives up to fans' expectation. Likewise for the music. The OP is by eufonius which quickly becomes one of my fav J-pop song. This wonderful romance series will forever have a place in my anime romance list which include Honey and Clover, Nana and LovelyComplex.
I was first introduced to this anime when it was shown on cable TV but unfortunately I was not able to follow the series. So I bought the DVD (both season 1 and 2) and once I started I could not stop. Never mind if I have to be awake at 4am in the morning as long as I finish it. I was addicted and with every chapter I fell in love more and more with the characters. This is the first anime that I do not have any antipathy towards at least one of the character. I never thought that it was possible! I can assure you that even viewers outside the target demographic attest to its greatness, pointing out its heartfelt storytelling and unique visual style. It was supposed to be just good enough for sophisticated female viewers—and it ended up being good enough for everyone. Funnier than most comedies and more touching than most dramas (even the live-action ones), Honey and Clover has emerged as one of the best anime I had ever watched, and I've watched plenty. The story begins right in the middle of things—Takemoto in his second year of college, Mayama nearing graduation, and Morita stuck in seventh-year hell. Then Hagu-chan came into the picture. She simply joins the cast, and the drama-go-round begins. There is no epic quest to fulfill, no convoluted conspiracy to unlock, no childhood friend to win over—it's just a bunch of college kids figuring out what to do with their lives, and it is fascinating. Every character gets a moment in the spotlight, with story arcs transiting flawlessly between each other. Even Takemoto, who spends most of the series as a neutral observer, closes things out with an inspiring personal triumph. The mood of the show switches effortlessly from madcap comedy to utter heartbreak and everything in between, yet nothing feels out of place. Within a single episode, a game of Art School Twister takes humor to new heights, and yet minutes later, Takemoto muses upon the meaning of friendship. Honey and Clover succeeds because of its characters' complex personalities. Morita emerges as a quick fan favorite with his bizarre antics and affinity for money, but to focus on him is to miss out on the intricate relationships between everyone else. I can see myself dating him in real life. My heart reaches out for Takemoto as well in his struggle to win Hagu-chan love. In particular, Ayumi's unrequited attachment to Mayama is sure to arouse plenty of indignation about the portrayal of women in Japanese entertainment. But maybe that anger is because Ayumi openly reveals everything we hate about them: weakness, insecurity, and the tendency to do really stupid things in the name of love. She is the most human character in a cast of incredibly human characters. If Honey and Clover has any faults, it's that you want it to keep going after it's over. It ends just like it begins—right in the middle of things, with so much more yet to be experienced. Without realizing it, you've become part of that circle of friends: you've shared their heartbreaks and triumphs, walked alongside them as they poured out their feelings, and watched each one of them learn a little bit more about themselves. Whether in school or not, who hasn't asked themselves at some point: "What do I want to do? Who do I want to be?" Honey and Clover may not have the answers, but it's all about trying to find them. The other thing I realized when I had finished this anime is this: people do drifted apart as we get older...
I might get a lot of people pissed with my review, so I just want to make a point clear. The reviews we do on our blog, are OUR own personal opinion. Sometimes it does reflect the opinion of the planet, but in this case you will be disappointed, as I, AnimeNerdz really don't think FMA deserves the millions of fans it has. FMA is actually a very good example of a decent anime with good special effects, good animation and a pathetic story. But the worst of this show, is the annoying drama. The characters are crying almost all the time, and those scenes can be sometimes very predictable. FMA may be one of the best anime series of all the time, but as I told before, it is ,by far, not perfect. If you are that one guy, that can't stand watching melodramatic scenes, you were not made for this show. Nevertheless if you decide to put aside those flaws, and just wait for the action/adventure scenes, you can be sure that you will enjoy this anime show. The story is about 2 brothers who lived a normal life until they learned how to use Alchemy. Science that lets its users transmute matter using the principle of equal balance or Equivalent Exchange, as they call it in the series. As they were beginning to get the hang of using Alchemist, their mother passes away because of an illness that hasn't been treated. So they try bringing her back and fail. Epic fail. After that an adventure begins for the Elric Bros. An adventure filled with danger, mystery, rivals, and new friends. The storyline itself is utterly laughable, with every major "plot twist" coming a mile away, eventually ending in some kind of saga that just keeps on piling with cheap revelation after another until it becomes the story equivalent of a train wreck. Even the pathetic attempts at humor to lighten the mood are unfunny as they come. They often consist of main character Ed showing some temper, usually because someone by complete accident calls him short. As a result, the humor eventually winds up becoming just as stale. Being a music fan, I find it odd that I don't remember any of the music. It's definitely there and fitting, just not memorable. Overall this would be a good anime to start with, if your looking for one, but don't expect much, as you won't be rewatching it, I can say that.
Another drama I am reviewing. I think it's a curse. Let me explain the title first: the movie is named 5 Centimeters Per Second for the speed at which cherry blossom petals fall, petals being a metaphorical representation of humans, reminiscent of the slowness of life and how people often start together but slowly drift into their separate ways. The storyline although not being too complex is very realistic and that is what actually makes it so easy to feel connected to the characters. You want him to get there on time. You want them to be happy. You want them to kiss. You are right there, with tears in your eyes hoping for a better tomorrow. Or if you're me, you're there scratching your balls thinking how the fuck did they manage to make something as sad as this shit. Many movies have those 'lucky circumstances', those unbelievably strange situations that are always nice to watch, because they are usually our fantasy-moments. This movie doesn't. And it's good, because some of us know deep inside, that those fantasy-moments will never happen so i guess that sometimes we even find ourselves wanting to see the 'real-life versions' of the plots...so no 'lucky circumstances', no happy-strange moments in this movie. This movie is all about real life... Yes, it may be sad. Yes, there might be no happy ending like in those Pixar and Disney bullshit fairy tales. But there will be something much better - a real life love story that will blow you away with it's amazing passion and animation. I only have one problem and you'll see what I mean if you're going to see the movie. In the first part, I really think the characters are waaaay to young for the romance. They are like 12-13 if I remember correctly. That is sick. They should have made them like 16. Would have made the story more passionate and in some ways more real. The sound is also gorgeous. I couldn't stop listening to the OST, so I really think you should check it out. I can't provide any information on the plot, because that would spoil it, and you don't want me spoiling this piece of shit for you, because you will watch it yourself. All I can say is that there are three episodes inside of this film; the second episode is set some years after the first episode, and the third episode is set some more years after the second episode. BTW Do not watch with you girlfriend. I thought it would be fun. It wasn't.
ps: I am sick of reviewing all the drama and romance shit..I am really scared that my balls will actually fall off any minute now...if you are interested in joining our team and writing some reviews in your free time please contact us at animenerdz@rocketmail.com
I am going to start by saying that "The Girl Who Leapt through Time" was the best anime movie I have ever seen. It doesn't have the best visuals in the world, but it has something that normal anime fail to deliver, and that is entertainment. You will be hooked in the story right from the beginning. With its lively and interesting backgrounds, lush colors and detailed animation, the film is really a joy to look at. Particular mention must be made of the time-leaping effect, which truly offers you a sense of breathlessness. The plot of the film is very simple and it would seem like a boring cliché, although it's not. It has a high school senior named Makoto Konno going through life, hanging out with her two best friends, and trying to cope with the pressures of being a student. So it is the same boring shit. Well until on a day, when everything is going wrong, Makoto suddenly discovers that she has somehow become able to leap through time. She falls over some kind of walnut and it gives her the ability. Seems stupid and retarded but they will reveal everything in the end. The ending is gorgeous. So suddenly able to relive great days or correct past mistakes she thinks she has somehow managed to find a way to make her wishes (and those of her friends) come true. But as all the movies involving time travel always thought as, it soon becomes clear that some of the changes have consequences that she never intended. It is a really a beautiful story that actually teaches us to embrace things the way they are and to try to make thing better but to understand that what has already happened can't and should not be changed or redone. The movie has two parts: the science-fiction part which starts right there in the beginning, and the melodramatic romance which ends the movie. And yes, I almost cried in the end. Almost did.
There is one reason I fucking hate Harem anime series. They make me feel like a loser. Here am I, sitting and watching a dude touching boobs at the beginning of the episode, having sex with another girl somewhere in the middle and then make out with the best friend of the girl he just had sex with, somewhere in the end. I mean, COME ON!!! Another thing I hate is drama. So honestly, this anime series was definitely not for me. It was like a test, for me to prove my "nerdness" when it comes to watching anime. So the story is like this: there is a guy that likes a girl. His classmate (I will call her CM from now on), and one of the most popular girls in school helps them become girlfriend and boyfriend. Pretty normal so far. The problem is that the girlfriend (I will call her GF from now on) is a little too shy for his perverted mind. So what happens is that the CM starts to pity his low percentage of touching the GF's boobs, and starts to make out with him. Then they have sex and he starts wondering who does he actually love. The CM has a best friend (CMBF) that does everything she can so that the guy breaks up with the GF and becomes CM's boyfriend. Somewhere during the 7th episode I think, the boy and CMBF kiss. The CMBF tells him that she will do anything for him, just to make sure that he will date the CM. So he takes advantage and has sex with her. There is some kind of festival somewhere between the 8-10 episodes. During the festival he twice manages to have sex with another classmate (ACM) that secretly liked him. But at the end of the festival he dances with CM and they kiss. ACM is happy that he is giving her some attention and he is happy because....well because they fuck like 3 times per episode for like 2 episodes. So it's kind of messed up. Also the next day a tape is shown by the Audio Video club that shows him having sex with a girl during the festival. Another girl. So he actually breaks up with his GF. But because she is fucking crazy, she goes around telling everyone they are still together. In the 11th episode the ACM leaves him and doesn't want to have sex with him anymore, so he meets with his GF and they become lovers again. During this time the CM that now truly understands that she loves him, comes to him and tells him she is pregnant. He then tells her he loves his GF, and kisses her. The CM goes mad, and in the last episode kills him. Stabs him with a knife. The GF finds his dead body, cuts his dead head off, and puts it in the bag. She then meets the CM on the roof of their school and kills her after making her admit she wasn't pregnant. The anime ends with the GF on a boot, hugging the head of the dude, and saying that she is happy they are together again. So yeah, IT IS FUCKED UP.

WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED??? I just finished watching Perfect Blue and I feel raped. I am not kidding. This was not a mind-f*ck, this was a mind-rape. My brain is feeling like a dirty whore that just took it in every hole. Let's just agree that Perfect Blue was made in 1997, in an era where the total mind-f*ck was limited to painfully obvious plot twists and very lame narratives that think they're the shit, like Pokémon and Sailor Moon. The movie is a creation of the dude that a couple of years later created Paprika and Paranoia Agent. So there is really no place left for comparison. Perfect Blue blends elements of the psychological thriller, the horror movies, the adult film with some rape scenes and other dramatic themes so that in the end, it seems to play out as a head-on collision of each genre. The main character of the film is some kind of pop idol Mima Kirigoe, who chooses to end her career as a singer and opts for a career change, thus becoming an actress. This sudden change upsets her fans, and pretty soon those around her start receiving threatening letters and such, and some are even later horribly murdered. And if that is not enough to make things interesting, Mimi seems to be losing her grip on reality, a slip into insanity brought on by her new found actress role on a brutally violent television series. So let me explain that a little bit clearly, so that you could understand, literally understand, how fucked up it is. She is playing the role of a woman that has mental problems confusing the reality with the dream and that is killing people in her life. At the same time, Mimi has the same problem, and starts confusing reality with her dreams and the role she is playing. So she is a crazy woman killing people playing the role of a crazy woman killing people. And the movie doesn't fuck around with letting you know when it's reality and when it's a scene from the movie. Figure it out yourself. Another thing that the movie just drops in the scenario is a copy of Mimi, like a ghost of the past, following her around. So she seems to have two different stalkers, one real and one phantasmal. The first is the typical obsessed fan. The second is her alter-ego who claims to be the true Mimi and it's all really only the beginning of forces that are ultimately out to claim her sanity. The ending, although providing a twist is actually more welcomed for providing the fucking end of everything. I was more happy that it finally ended than that the ***** was the true killer. (Yeah, I am not telling you). Perfect Blue does contain some of the obligatory fashion elements of most anime, not limited to extreme violence and graphic sexuality. The film's narrative works because of its "movie within a movie" theme, a setup that's been done to death in most live-action cinema. Overall it was a good movie, nothing spectacular, but actually worthy to be watched at least once by every anime fan out there. So if you do have a "Watch before I tragically die"-List please do add Perfect Blue to that list. Right between Pokémon and Sailor Moon, 'cause I know you want to see them. I can feel it. Graphics 9/10 Sound 7/10 Storyline 7/10 Characters 7/10 Overall 7.5/10
The movie is coming up in theaters...so, the true question on every fan's mind is: will it be good, or just another piece of shit? Well, the trailer looks promising, but hey, all trailer look promising, it's why they are created in the first place..to get you in the seat to watch their shit...I really can't say if the movie will be good or not..all we have to do is head for the theaters and hope for the best
