First Look: Denno Coil

This show is f*cking incredible. I love every bit of it. The story is original, the characters are a bunch of mysterious kids, the opening theme is gorgeous and the animation is breathtaking. It is a perfect combination of drama, mystery, sci-fi and action. The fillers are also well and it actually feels as a whole. I really can't tell you much about the whole plot because that would mean ruining it's originality. Just try watching 3 episodes of this and I promise you that you won't be able to put i down. It is a little confusing but trust me, it is incredible.

First Look: Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Another mystery who-done-it wannabe, but is it worth the fuzz? Well, after seeing 2 episodes of this game-made-anime series, I can proudly say this should be interesting to watch. The first episode sets up the plot, introducing the large amount of characters that are on an island. It's all about a witch, some gold, and some family. And there is a lot of mystery going on. I have only seen 2 episodes, and at the end of the second 5 person die, so it's a good start for a who-done-it, with everyone blaming the so-called Beatrice, the witch that made the family rich. The animation is kind of gloomy, and it just builds the horror-like atmosphere. Didn't notice a great soundtrack, but there are these cliche effects when the tension builds and the climax arrives. Like I said, after 2 episodes, I am really waiting for more, therefore will definitely watch it as soon as has its full release.

First Look: CANAAN

After seeing 2 episodes of CANAAN I'm actually kind of confused whether this series will be the next boom, or just another wave of disappointment that year 2009 just keeps bringing. The game is just an adaptation of the video game called "428". So let' just hope they don't fuck it up like they usually do with adaptations. Honestly, I really liked the first episode. The production is amazing. The music was great, and so was the animation. The fight scenes in CANAAN are pretty sick. If you have already seen the first episode, then you'll probably have the same question on your mind that i do: WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??? The first 2 episodes just keep on building a plot but you never get an actual grip on what is happening. It all happens in Tokyo, and we see some virus, then some mercenaries, some soldiers, some fighting, some awesome chick with some extra senses and no fucking connection. This might be a series that you need to play the game to understand the anime, but I hope that isn't the case here. Well let's just hope that they do a good job explaining things up.

First Look: RideBack

In a futuristic Japan, we have our main protagonist, Rin Ogata, a girl who was a promising ballet dancer, but decided to quit. A couple of years later, this time in college she comes across a club building and soon finds herself intrigued by a what looks like a transforming motorcycle called a Rideback. She soon finds that her unique ballet skills with balance and finesse can help her be one of the best Rideback riders. It has only 12 episodes, and after seeing 3 of them, I really don't see a future in this series. The visuals are beautiful and lively, the sound is passable and the cast is kind of likable. I guess there will be some military action involved, as we see some cut-scenes with some news programs telling us about some resistance war using Ridebacks but so far we only have racing episodes. You should give it a look if you enjoy mecha, as the Ridebacks look pretty awesome.

First Look: Basquash!

This series is awesome. Breathtaking visuals, superb soundtrack and a cool cast of characters is what Basquash! really delivers. I saw 4 episodes and it is an ongoing series, so I'm going to stop here, and review it in a couple of months when it finishes. So far I'm impressed. We have this sci-fi world where people leave on Earth, but there is a futuristic Moon where only cool people live. So everyone wants to get there. Especially our main hero, who's sister cannot walk because of an accident involving a robot. He hates all the robots but starts loving them after being introduced to one of them by a friend. The boy is a fan of basketball, and is also hating the fact that they have this Robotic Competitions in basketball. He thinks the sport should be played by people, on their own two feet. So, he becomes a street basketball player using his robot. That is as far as I've seen, but it really is entertaining. It has some ecchi moments, some cool comedy stuff in it, and don't forget about the stunning visuals. Give it a look, you won't be disappointed.

First Look: Eden of the East

I started watching Eden of the East because some dude told me on some kind of anime forum that it has something similar to Code Geass. When I heard that, I knew I had to see it. After watching 5 episodes out of 11 I really don't see where the similarity is. It has its fair amount of suspense and some mind games, but it is no match for Code Geass. What I still don't understand is what the fuck is the Eden Of the East. No relevance ot the title during the first 5 episodes. The story follows a boy, that can't remember anything about himself. All of a sudden he finds out that he is part of a game. He is a "selecao", a member of a group of 12 people, each one of them paid 10 billion Yen (100 mil $) and given the task to save their country, Japan. If they used the money for their own gain, they would be killed. The game is on! The problem is that the main hero, spent some of his money to erase his memory. Now he has 8.2 billion, no memories, and a girl that helps him discover the pieces that lead to the mastermind behind the game. What will happen? I don't know, but I really think this series is awesome. The graphics are beautiful too. The sound doesn't seem to impress, although the opening theme is gorgeous.

First Look: Pandora Hearts

Well, to tell you the truth, I have mixed feelings for this one. At first it seems like a nice story, but then… I don’t know, too much stuff started happening at once. The story is about a rich kid called Oz Bezarius, or Vessalius like in wiki. I don’t get it, can’t they name him in the dub like they named him in other sources? Why don’t they give him a common name for all sources? Well whatever, that’s not the series fault. So the story (I won’t get into details) seems quite intriguing, but it’s nothing truly original. It has that distinct ,,been there done that” feeling. And I also don’t like how they present it in the 2 episodes I watched. I mean the 1st episode is boring and doesn’t progress much, but in the 2nd all Hell brakes loose all of a sudden. When this kid takes an oath to protect the family’s honor 3 assholes come and ruin his ceremony and try to imprison him in the Abyss. Then some girl comes and protects him. And everybody starts making revelations about this guy, like ,,Oh, we forgot to mention, but he fucked your mother.”. The 3 assholes, who are shinigamis (Death Gods) by the way, say that he is the prophesied one and that his existence is a sin, the girl says he is the key, many say that he is the heir, then his friend says that one of those shinigamis is someone they know, etc. Also that girl transforms into a giant blood eyed rabbit and fights the 3 assholes. I just can’t grasp the concept that 3 Gods of Death have trouble with a frigging rabbit. I mean they are supposed to be very powerful, like clap their hands and kill everybody. So why are they so weak? If they were the lieutenants of the Death Gods then it would be fine, but no… they are the Death Gods.
The graphics are a bit outdated for 2009. They look more like 2004. It’s not a bad thing, but they’re nothing special, just to keep you going. And the sound is balls cause some of the voice cast is annoying, like some are squeaky and some voices that are supposed to be a boy’s voice sounds more like a girl. The music is truly NOT memorable.
Overall I don’t have much expectation from this one. I’ll still watch it when the full season comes out, but I don’t keep my hopes high. It isn’t original, the characters aren’t lovable, and I doubt they will be likable, and on top of that the comedy is kind of pathetic.

First Look: K-On!

What the fuck is wrong with you people? How come this garbage, this bag of crap can have so many fans? It is so retarded. I saw 2 episodes, and trust me, IT IS STUPID. I know, you're gonna say "Well, you are a boy, and that's why you don't like it." Touché, but that doesn't make it less idiotic. K-On is about 4 girls. One is rich, one is boy-like, one is hot and the 4th is a moron. They all join the Light music club in their high-school, and start a band. That's all I can say about the plot from the 2 episodes I've seen. The visuals are pretty and lively. The jokes are just so simple and stupid, that seriously (no offence ladies, I love you all) you have to be a girl to actually enjoy them. Or gay. Gay might do it. For a music anime, it has not enough sounds, but maybe it's only because it's the start. Still, the moron can't play the guitar, so I guess it'll take her, let's say, 4-5 episodes to master it. I really don't see the potential to make it live up to its hype, but I guess perverted minds made this one of the most popular series this year. I saw a lot of top 5's and all of them had K-On! in there. Not me, though. This shit is bottom 5, till someone accidentally cuts my balls.

First Look: 07-Ghost

So as mentioned before, this one post will go in the First Look category. Contrary to the previous posts, this one features a series that barely came out and is ongoing. I watched only 3 episodes and I can say that I’m a bit hyped. I mean it looks like it will be a winner. It has a good mix of characters, although some of them are the type of characters that you’ve seen before judging by their personality. The action looks good and I have the impression that it will evolve because the main characters powers will evolve. The setting looks nice with a well mix of fantasy and sci-fi. The difference between fantasy and sci-fi, if you ask me, is that sci-fi focuses on technology while fantasy focuses on mythical and strange creatures and powers such as dragons and conjuration and virgins in the 21st century. I also like the visuals, they are a treat. Not the best I’ve seen, but certainly they’re eye pleasing. Character models are rich in detail and color and the background looks interactive, and by that I mean they don’t look and feel like props for a theater. Sound department doesn’t slack of, they deliver believable voice cast, realistic sound effects and good opening.
I just hope they will make only 26 episodes, or if they have too much to just cramp in 26 episodes then let it be 50 or so. But any more and they will just fuck up. I’m not saying this because I’m waiting for the full to come out and then watch it. I’m just saying that if they drag this one then it will get boring and it will feel more like a chore.
But overall I have high expectations for this one. If they know how to work on the plot and deliver some good twists (although some I already predict) and add that to the action, then we may be in for a nice treat.

First Look: Soul Eater

Ok, so from now, on our blog, we will write 2 (that is TWO, as in one-two) posts per anime series. One of them, from this day on, will be containing our first impressions after watching a couple of episodes. What do we think, what do we expect. I decided to do that because, first of all, I see a lot of anime blogs out there just reviewing every episode of each series, which is retarded if you ask me, but hey, who am I to judge. I guess one during and a review afterward is enough. So the preview posts will be called First Look, and they will have their own category called, yeah you guessed it, First Look. I am going to write the first post from this category about something I started watching yesterday, Soul Eater. I know many of you have already seen this anime, but I never actually had enough time to watch it. I just realized like a couple of weeks ago, that I didn't see it, so that's what I'm doing right now. After watching 7 episodes, I can proudly say this anime is awesome. It has some great visuals, and a compelling cast of characters. The sounds are also nice, and I really cannot imagine them fucking it up. So this is a really good one for my basket of "Seen shit". Comedy, action, comedy, cool stuff, pure awesomeness, and did I mention comedy???
